Healing Country in the Central Murray Ramsar
Preservation of the Central Murray Ramsar site is a focus in the Murray region. The site is listed as a Wetland of International Importance under the Ramsar Convention for its significant contribution to the conservation of globally and nationally threatened species.
Through the Central Murray Ramsar ‘Healing Country’ project, we are working closely with First Nations communities, public land managers and species experts to strengthen wetland resilience, connectivity and condition. The work aims to improve the condition of wetland vegetation and habitat by managing impacts from plant and animal species while supporting employment, skills and capacity of First Nations groups in the area.
Traditional Owners’ ecological knowledge and community priorities are being incorporated into management of prioritised local wetland sites and significant and threatened species at the site.
This project is funded by the Australian Government Natural Heritage Trust and delivered by Local Land Services, a member of the Commonwealth Regional Delivery Partners panel.
More details about the project will be coming soon. In the meantime, you can read about work carried out so far to preserve the Central Murray Ramsar site. To find out the latest news and advice for your region, subscribe to one of our newsletters.
