Cultural Burn Training Project

The video project captured the Hunter Local Land Services Cultural Burn Training project at Paynes Crossing.

Indigenous Fire Practitioner Victor Steffensen was contracted from Cape York together with Fire Stick Alliance to work with the Aboriginal community members in the region to share Cultural Burning knowledge and practices.

Wanaruah Nations Aboriginal Corporations (WNAC) provided Indigenous held land for the training. Aboriginal members involved in the training were from LALCs and Aboriginal land management organisation from the Hunter and Central Coast regions.

The objective of the Cultural Burn was to provide a fire break for the WNAC property and increase and protect native endemic vegetation and encourage native fauna to access the land and provide  protection to Cultural heritage values.

Thanks to the Wonnarua/Wanaruah Elders and community for their participation in the project and allowing the Video Project to be undertaken on their Traditional lands.
