Thomson, James - Belowra

Candidate employment or volunteer experience

I am a fifth-generation sheep and cattle farmer on Belowra Station on the Tuross River. I was a Eurobodalla Shire Counsellor (ESC) from 2016-2021, during which time I sat on two boards and many committees. It was a difficult but rewarding time as we governed through the 2019-2020 Black Summer Bushfires and Covid 19. I also currently work with people with disabilities in a disability employment company. I have a previous 10-year active membership in the Moruya Rodeo committee. I have volunteered in many roles during the George Bass surfboat marathon.

Through the Australian Institute of Company Directors, I have completed the Governance Essentials for Local Government in-house program with the Eurobodalla Shire Council. I was the Ministerial Appointment to the Gulaga Board of Management (Aboriginal Land Management Board), Twice elected as a NSW representative to the Australian Coastal Council Committee, ESC Delegate on floodplain management from 2016-2021.

Additional information

Since childhood, I have worked with weeds and feral animals. During my time with the ESC, I significantly increased the budget for weed and pest animal management. I also actively educated the community on biosecurity. I would like to see farming in the Southeast and Australia in general, become a bigger agenda item in federal and state governments. Our farm was burnt out during the black summer fires, and we are still rebuilding and restocking. I understand that living on the land can be a struggle, but it's worth it. I feel I can help make a positive difference.


Kensit, Pam - Crookwell

I will be the outgoing Mayor of the Upper Lachlan Shire with 8 years experience in local Government. I have established strong connections with both State and Federal government across all parties. Agriculture is my passion and working closely with all tiers of government to ensure full recognition of rural NSW is an area that I believe needs ongoing development. My experience on farm where my husband and I run merinos and X-bred meat sheep along with my political connections could be of unique opportunity for the South East LLS. My extensive experience in meeting practices and my understanding of financial literature can only bring a positive benefit to the LLS. I have been involved in Australian agriculture since 1990 and prior to that grew up on an Irish beef farm. We have a long association with landcare and practice it on our property. I bring to the table a wealth of corporate experience and an extensive vision for the future of rural Australia.

Dyer, Alan - Bungendore

Alan is a business consultant with his own company that primarily supports Government improvements to business capability. In addition, Alan is a new small-volume primary producer with a small herd of alpacas. Alan volunteers with the Rotary Club of Bungendore and, at the time of this application, is the President-elect. Alan has previously been a volunteer director for an ACT-based sporting organisation ('State Sporting Organisation') and has been involved in the governance of various volunteer organisations since the early-2010's.

Charman, Dr Amanda-Lee - Wamboin

Candidate employment or volunteer experience

I am a Veterinarian graduated from Charles Sturt University situated in the Riverina and started my career in mixed practice, servicing the local area within the South East region. I have extensive knowledge of biosecurity, animal welfare and stock control, animal pest control, exotic diseases, agricultural primary production and outbreak responsive preparedness. I currently reside on the ACT Veterinary Practitioners Board and am the Policy council member of the ACT Australian Veterinary Association. I am a casual academic for Charles Sturt University for their final year Veterinary Students. I am passionate about local primary production and local government involvement.

McGrath, John - Cockwhy

Candidate employment or volunteer experience

I am currently the owner and operator of Higgins Creek Farm. The farm is a mixed farming operation that specialises in Blueberry production. The farm also breeds goats and Australian White sheep as well as Muscovy ducks for meat. Prior to taking on the farm full time I was an Australian Federal Police officer for more than 20 years with a wide variety of skills and experiences developed over many years. In particular risk management and emergency management were key focuses especially when working offshore in challenging circumstances assisting neighbouring nations develop and manage effective policing policies and procedures. I was an executive officer in the AFP and as such have worked closely with other government agencies achieve objectives and results and to negotiate and collaborate effectively. I am a very effective communicator and work well with others.

Williamson, Luke - Colinton

I am a farmer of beef cattle and fresh berries. My wife and I were named the Snowy Monaro Farmers for 2023. I have 30 years experience as a business advisor and business improvement consultant. I have worked for major global consultancies, small local consultancies and with engineering firms. I have held executive positions with consulting and engineering firms since 2007. I was the CEO of a national health professional organisation for three years. I was the Managing Director of the Australian Arm of a UNICEF maternity health program for two years. I was a member of the Human Research Ethics Committee for ACT Health for seven years. I am currently a councillor with the Snowy Monaro Regional Council. I am a soccer referee. I have refereed since the 1990s.

I have worked as a Scientist, Mushroom Grower, Quarantine Officer, and Australian Public Service Officer for 30 years. through out my working life i have made significant contributions to agricultural advancements and community engagement. Serving in various capacities at the Small Farms Network Capital Region (SFNCR), including Treasurer and Vice President, I have organized workshops, conducted trials, and managed finances effectively Including successfully applying, receiving and acquitting grants. In conjunction with the above I was a professional Project Manager with over 40 years experience delivering complex IT projects for the Dept. of Defence. I was the founder and managing director of Brindabella Stockfeed which became Canberra's largest stockfeed store before being sold to Pet Stock (Woolworths). I established and ran a 5 million plant, root stock nursery in conjunction with Qld. Dept of Agriculture and Driscoll's Berries Australia.

Lolicato, Sandy - Jeir

I have operated a cattle property in the Yass region for the last 25 years, and been actively involved in natural resource management (including tree planting) with a number of on-farm grants. I have worked in the public sector for 30 years as a manager, mostly within agricultural, environmental and Indigenous related agencies - my key areas of expertise included program management, governance and risk management. I am a Board member of the Invasive Species Council, Member of the NSW Environmental Trust Invasive Species Technical Review Committee and Member of the ACT Weeds Committee. Ghanem, Prof Dr Ashraf - Springrange

I am a professor of Chemistry in tertiary education with a PhD from Germany. I have published over 100 publications with over 4000 citations worldwide and appeared in the list of the top 2% of scientists worldwide in my field of expertise. I have much experience in governance and decision-making processes and have attracted much funding nationally and internationally. While the connection between a Chemistry PhD with research experience and LLS may not be immediately apparent, there are several ways in which my background intersects to benefit the community. In particular, I can provide valuable insight into environmental issues and regulations. As an Analytical Chemist, I can provide expertise in soil and water quality, sustainable agriculture, research collaboration and funding attraction. Most importantly, education and outreach. As President of the Japanese Society for Promotion of Science Alumni Association in Australia, I can provide innovation and technology transfer.

Ashraf (ASH) earned a Chemistry MSc from Stuttgart and a PhD from Tuebingen, Germany. He embarked on a scientific journey across Geneva, Riyadh, Kyoto, Tsukuba, and Tokyo, settling in Tasmania in 2008 and relocating to Canberra in 2010. He's been honoured with numerous science awards, including the Discovery and Australia Awards, and has served as President of the Japan Society for Promotion of Science (JSPS) since 2023. Notable achievements include significant funding for drug discovery (RITALIN) and recognition among the top 2% globally in his field for 2021-2023. Ash brings extensive governance, networking, education, and innovation expertise to the board.


Bilderbeek, Rob - Bellmount Forest

Wilton, Jay - Currowan

Jay is an experienced C suite executive and Board member with a 10 year tenure in the private sector, starting his professional career as a financial analyst. Jay currently sits on four Boards and is the CEO of a service transformation consultancy. Jay completed a 10 year tenure as a senior Federal Public Servant, and has led several whole-of-government service delivery reforms, including a Prime Minister acclaimed program. Jay’s input across various Boards has provided advice and guidance to many successful businesses. He currently sits on the Boards of Pragma Partners Pty Ltd (Chairman, 5 year tenure), Annex Digital Pty Ltd (Director, 4 year tenure), River Run Farm Pty Ltd (Managing Director, 4 year tenure) and Sol People Pty Ltd (Director, 3 year tenure). Jay also manages an investment company and portfolio, including his cattle farm and agri tourism property in south-east NSW.

In my role at Macquarie I managed a legal team of 20 and was secretary of the Executive Committee - running the weekly management meetings and coordinating the CEO's annual performance appraisal process with the Board. I have been able to apply the skills I have learnt from this role and my other corporate roles to our farming business. Over the last 12 months we have expanded our sheep operations - purchasing two neighbouring farms and taking over a nearby lease block. Rose, Emeritus Professor Reuben  - Jindabyne

I come from a family that has lived in the Monaro region since 1872. I grew up working with sheep and cattle and helping my parents face the challenges of rural life. I then completed a veterinary science degree and, after periods in veterinary practice, did postgraduate degrees at the University of Sydney, where I became a professor and Dean of the Faculty. After 30 years at the University of Sydney, I joined MLA and became the director of the livestock R&D program, overseeing a $40m budget at that time. After this, I returned to help run the family farm "Boloco Station" and also chaired a group of CEOs in Sydney assisting with mentorship and planning in businesses. More recently, I have been involved in mentorship, and my wife and I continue to look after a reduced area of our original family farm.
