Broken Hill livestock biosecurity hub
There is currently an opportunity to investigate the feasibility of establishing a livestock biosecurity hub (truck wash) in Broken Hill, with the facility to be primarily used by livestock carriers for the purpose of cleaning livestock carrying crates.
The NSW Government has provided funding to Local Land Services, who have commissioned NSW Public Works to:
- undertake an options study
- prepare a detailed business case
- finalise the Statement of Environmental Effects (SEE)
- pre-concept design documentation
- progress to pre-detail design documentation for a new truck wash facility.
Current status
NSW Public Works completed a tender to undertake the above works in September 2023, with a contractor formally engaged and on site from February 2024.
A variation to the contract to enable additional design specifications to ensure the design and costs include best practice for wastewater treatment has occurred.
Delivery of the works is well progressed, with further field assessments undertaken during the second half of 2024 and the final report due in early 2025 to Local Land Services and NSW Public Works.
Next steps
Once the above works are completed and the business case and merits of the project have been assessed, the next steps for the project will be determined.
