    Farm Water Planning

    This Farm Water Planning webinar is for livestock owners who want to learn more about planning for farm water security and supply with a focus on water and animal health. Paul from Soil and Water Solutions comes from years of experience & extensive technical knowledge and application of soil conservation principles and practices. He currently leads a multi-disciplinary team of professional environmental consultants in designing and managing civil and environmental construction projects.

    The webinar covers:

    • Understanding total farm water requirements
    • Dam siting, design and construction
    • Harvestable rights, catchments, stream order and licensing requirements
    • Determining the size and type of water storages available or needed
    • Phil Kemsley, District Vet with the North Coast Local Land Services Animal Health team also covers the relationship between water quality and livestock health and productivity.

    Pasture Dieback Update for the NSW North Coast - 'A drought in otherwise perfect conditions'

    North Coast Local Land Services invites farmers, landholders, rural advisors and service providers to a webinar update on Pasture Dieback - a condition that kills off large areas of sown and native grasses. It has been present in Queensland for some time and confirmed near Murwillumbah in March 2020. It has since spread to affect numerous properties across the Tweed Valley. In early October, two new confirmations of pasture dieback were recorded just north of Kyogle.

    Listen in to hear the latest on pasture dieback, what to look for, and management options for affected properties on the North Coast.

    Weather Trends and Forecasting for North Coast NSW Agriculture

    If you are involved in agriculture on the North Coast, this webinar is for you.

Luke will fill you in on long term weather trends and help you understand how to get the best out of the Bureau’s forecasts.     Speakers: Dr Luke Shelley joined the Bureau in 2008 after completing a PhD on biodiversity in wetlands and irrigation systems in Northern Victoria. Luke initially worked in the Bureau’s Water Program to develop the National Water Account, before moving into Climate Services to manage the rebuild of the Bureau’s Seasonal Climate Outlook, and then the Improved Seasonal Forecast Service and introduction of the ACCESS-S model.

    Simon is an independent global beef analyst with over 30 years of industry experience. He will be bringing Northern Tablelands and North Coast livestock producers the most up to date information on the factors influencing future livestock prices. Given the complexity of global markets, as COVID-19 impacts consumer demand in many ways, Simon will look to map out some the current challenges that exist in exporting meat around the world and the impact these challenges will have on cattle and lamb prices for the next two years. Simon will look to present his livestock price forecasts and explain how he arrived at these numbers and with the livestock officers talk about farming strategies during this period.
