About Community Advisory Groups

Regional local Community Advisory Groups are established as prescribed under the Local Land Services Act (2013).

Community Advisory Groups are tailored to ensure community engagement for consultation, collaboration and planning, directed towards effective service delivery for the communities of the Central West region.

Our Community Advisory Groups

The structure of Central West Community Advisory Groups has recently undergone extensive review designed to improve efficiencies and communications.

The Central West Local Land Services Board fosters the opportunity to gain meaningful contributions from local communities and has agreed to support the following groups across the Central West region:

• Aboriginal Community Advisory Group
• Central West Community Advisory Group
• Central West Councils Environment and Waterways Alliance
• Central West Natural Resource Management Working Group

Central West Local Land Services is also committed to ensuring effective community engagement through various levels of networking such as forums, workshops and information sessions. Community input is always welcomed and considered via many channels of open communications.

Aboriginal Community Advisory Group

The Central West Aboriginal Community Advisory Group (ACAG), which consists of members from various local Aboriginal communities across the Central West, aims to provide advice and strategic support to the Board, improve customer service to Aboriginal communities, and provide a forum of knowledge sharing and discussion relating to cultural issues within the business. The group aims to maximise the opportunities for Aboriginal communities to increase skills, knowledge and build capacity.

Central West Local Land Services acknowledges the importance of enriching meaningful relationships with the Aboriginal community and consults with the ACAG on various Cultural Heritage issues with focus on adoption of respectful protocols.

Purpose

• Provide advice and strategic support to the Board and staff on all matters relating to Aboriginal engagement within the region in the most respectful and culturally appropriate manner
• Improve customer service to Aboriginal communities by creating networking opportunities and partnerships to address local and regional issues
• Provide a forum for a positive exchange of ideas between Central West Local Land Services and Aboriginal communities in relation to strategies, policies, projects and best practice, concerning Aboriginal engagement and cultural issues within the region
• Maximise opportunities for Aboriginal people to increase relevant skills and knowledge, and build capacity.

Central West Community Advisory Group

The Central West Community Advisory Group (CWCAG) acts as an integral link between Central West Local Land Services and the community it serves, providing the Board with a positive exchange of ideas and to consult on strategy development and planning services.

CWCAG members will provide advice and strategic support to the Central West Board to ensure community values are incorporated into business and planning and contribute to matters concerning operations and service delivery.

Purpose

• To provide the Board with a forum for positive exchange of ideas and to consult with community when developing strategy and planning services
• The CAG will support the Board to ensure regional community values are included in relevant aspects of Local Land Services’ business and planning
• Provide advice and strategic support to the Board and staff on matters relating to operations and service delivery of Central West Local Land Services
• Maximise opportunities for the wider community to increase relevant skills, knowledge and build capacity.

Central West Councils Environment & Waterways Alliance

The Central West Councils Environment & Waterways Alliance is a partnership of 18 Councils encompassing both the Central Tablelands and Central West Local Land Services regions. The Alliance exists to improve environmental outcomes across the region.

The current structure of the Alliance serves as the primary means of engagement with Local Government. It is supported by both Central West and Central Tablelands Local Land Services with contributions from member Councils to support capacity and employment of a Project Support Officer.

The Alliance assists member Councils with on-ground funding opportunities, project development and management including facilitation of quarterly meetings, training and capacity building events.

Central West member Councils include: Bogan Shire Council, Coonamble Shire Council, Dubbo Regional Council, Forbes Shire Council, Gilgandra Shire Council, Lachlan Shire Council, Narromine Shire Council, Parkes Shire Council, Warren Shire Council and Warrumbungle Shire Council.

Central West Natural Resource Management Working Group

Landcare is an integral partner with Central West Local Land Services and continues to support the Central West Natural Resource Management Working Group (CWNRMWG), a strong and robust network of passionate community members dedicated to sound natural resource management and sustainable agriculture. The group includes representatives from over 24 Landcare and other community groups across the region. The group meets regularly and provides the opportunity for coordinated, two-way conversation with member groups across local and regional scales.

Local Land Services and Landcare formalised their working relationship in 2015 by signing a Memorandum of Understanding.  Central West Local Land Services and the CWNRMWG then created their own Memorandum of Understanding in 2016 to ensure that both the organisations strive for stronger partnerships that are regionally relevant. The Regional Landcare Facilitator (RLF) supports the CWNRMWG and the Coordinators employed through the Local Landcare Coordinators Initiative. The RLF is supported by Local Land Services to build capacity and foster action with the aim of increasing partnerships and financial stability of Landcare into the future.
