New Natural Capital Advisors for the Riverina supports farmers better manage natural capital
05 Aug 2024
Local Land Services appointed Cherie White and Allie Maffei as the Natural Capital Advisors for the Riverina region.
Both are dedicated to helping farmers identify ways to improve their natural capital and be rewarded, including understanding the benefits and potential risks of participating in environmental markets.
Cherie brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in working with landholders and rural communities.
“I'm really looking forward, through this role, to helping landholders realise the unique features that they have on their farms and how they can manage them not only to benefit their farming enterprise but also for the broader community,” said Cherie.
“Environmental markets is one way which enables them to be rewarded for their positive actions."
Allie has a background in natural resource management and is passionate about helping landholders make the most out of their natural capital opportunities.
“I am keen to help landholders explore the new opportunities that the Natural Capital program will bring and make more informed decisions that will not only benefit on-farm businesses but will also ensure the long-term resilience of our landscape for future generations” Mrs Maffei said.
As part of its new Natural Capital Program, Local Land Services is hosting a series of engaging Natural Capital Conversation events across the Riverina region. These events are designed for landholders looking to increase the value of their land’s natural assets whilst improving productivity and managing, restoring and protecting the environment.
Upcoming events will feature expert speakers, practical workshops and valuable networking opportunities with farmers who are leading the way in natural capital.

“We are encouraging landholders to come along to this event to discover the value of their farm’s biodiversity, learn more about woodlands unique to our local area and explore ways to diversify your income,” said Cherie.
“Understanding the value of the natural assets on your farm can benefit your farm business. Local Land Services is developing programs to boost your knowledge and confidence in navigating environmental markets opportunities,” added Allie.
