Farming can be a lonely and challenging business, especially during COVID when labour disappeared and logistics often failed, but those who are in the industry say they couldn’t imagine doing anything else. Anyone who has been to an Ag event will know the energy, innovation and passion that drives these incredible producers to connect people through food.
Ag Day is Australia’s way of celebrating this Industry but, like other events across the country, COVID has forced multiple cancellations again this year. Regional Development Australia – Southern Inland (RDASI) acknowledged that its hosted dinner was unlikely to go ahead but wasn’t prepared to give up altogether.
“It is really important to us that we show our appreciation for our food producers and celebrate their industry,” says RDASI CEO, Carisa Wells, “We needed to look at an alternative and sharing some of the amazing stories in our Southern Inland Ag Community seemed perfect.”
‘For the Love of Ag’ was created, a short film featuring local Southern Inland farmers and graziers doing inspirational things. Cressida Cains, 2020 AgriFutures Rural Women’s Award NSW/ACT winner and national runner-up and co-founder of Pecora Dairy, was thrilled to be invited as the face of the event.
“I am honoured to be part of this Ag Day project”, Cressida said. “I’m passionate about agriculture in Australia. The future of Ag is really exciting and this film gives us a glimpse into some of the fantastic work happening in the Southern Inland region of NSW”.
The film is due for release on Ag Day, Friday 19th November and RDASI is encouraging people in the Ag Industry to organise a get together with family and friends to mark the occasion and watch the film. ‘For the Love of Ag’ features five producers within the Southern Inland region: Cressida Cains of Pecora Dairy; Peter and Jack O’Connor from Oxton Park; Georgie Kelly and her family at Rugby Station; Tim Kirk, from Clonakilla Wines and John Mauger, of Mauger’s Meats.
The film has been made possible through the support of RDASI’s partners Coordinare, Local Land Services, National Farmers Federation and NSW Farmers Association.
