Macquarie perch

South East Local Land Services has funding from the Australian Government through its National Landcare Program to undertake works to support the Endangered Macquarie Perch in South East NSW until 2023. Part of this project is to work with land managers to reinstate and/or improve riverside vegetation buffers (riparian zones). Diversely vegetated riverbanks provide critical shading, sediment control, native leaf fall, bank stability and benching to better support in stream habitat for fish.
The Southern Fires, and the heavy rain that followed had a dramatic impact on the habitat of the Macquarie perch across their range, putting them under significant duress. The upper Murrumbidgee population is now more important than  ever. We are hoping to hear from land managers who may have seen Macquarie perch in waterways on their property and are interested in protecting them and their habitat for future generations.
You can find out more about Macquarie perch and how to identify them here.
