Katelyn home to help local producers

PRODUCTION ADVICE - MAY 2021 - ANIMAL BIOSECURITY & WELFARE

New Deniliquin-based District Vet Katelyn Braine.Katelyn Braine is the new Murray Local Land Services District Vet based at Deniliquin.

Her arrival doubles the veterinary capacity at the Deniliquin office as she joins Linda Searle in delivering veterinary and biosecurity services to producers in the west of the region.

Growing up on a mixed production farm near Finley, Katelyn has always had an interest in animals and farm production, which led her to a career as a vet.

“I have always enjoyed helping around the farm, and I feel really fortunate to have been able to turn that into a career that helps others,” she said.

Graduating from Charles Sturt University in 2014, Katelyn started her veterinary career in private practice, working as a mixed practice vet for two years, furthering her experience with a two-year livestock production internship at Apiam Animal Health.

Katelyn has a passion for working at the flock and herd level, which has led her to the District Vet role. Having previously worked in both the Riverina and Northern Tablelands Local Land Services areas, the opportunity to work as a district vet in her home region was one she couldn’t refuse.

At Murray Local Land Services, Katelyn works alongside three other District Veterinarians and two Biosecurity Officers working with local producers on animal and livestock biosecurity and welfare, improving animal health and profitability as well as collaborating during emergency management responses.

“I know this area well, and some of the production systems. I look forward to working with locals to improve their production, animal health and welfare on farm,” Katelyn said.

“I’m here to help, so give me a call.”

Katelyn works out of the Deniliquin Local Land Services office at 449 Charlotte Street. You can contact her on 0499 339 018.
