The Superb Parrot (Polytelis swainsonii) is an attractive bright green parrot. It is listed as vulnerable in NSW and Australian, with 5,000 – 10,000 birds remaining in the wild.

The Superb parrot is found throughout the central area of the Murray region. They are highly mobile, but their movement ecology is poorly understood.

We need your help to learn more about this threatened species.

Please get involved in the superb parrot citizen science project by recording casual sightings or setting up an ongoing monitoring site to observe superb parrot numbers and behaviours over a 1 km transect.

The Superb Parrot Monitoring Project database is stored on the Atlas of Living Australia (ALA) – Biocollect platform.

To contribute to the citizen science project online, you will need to set up a free ALA account. Instructions to create your account are found here. You will then need to be added as a member of the project. You should ask Damon Oliver, Superb Parrot Monitoring Project Officer, to do this for you.
