LOCAL LEADERS BEING SOUGHT FOR ABORIGINAL COMMUNITY ADVISORY GROUP

Hunter Local Land Services is calling on Aboriginal people actively involved in our community that have a passion in cultural land management, cultural awareness and Aboriginal employment opportunities with ambition in promoting and building partnerships to join our dynamic Aboriginal Community Advisory Group (ACAG). The Group was first formed in 2014, and is looking for members for the next two years.
The Aboriginal Community Advisory Group meets twice a year providing the opportunity to work with members of the Hunter Local Land Services Board and staff and community/industry representatives on a number of key issues relating to Natural Resources Management, Sustainable Agriculture, Biosecurity and Emergency Management preparedness.
Hunter Local Land Services Board Chair Tony Hegarty, says the current ACAG members have achieved a lot, and the Board and staff are thankful for their efforts.
“It’s been fantastic to see the achievements of the ACAG over the last few years, bringing to the fore our Cultural Burning program and encouraging proactive land management by Local Aboriginal Land Councils and Aboriginal community groups, while enabling opportunities for utilising and increasing Aboriginal employment,” said Mr Hegarty.
“The group has forged strong partnerships in our region between the LALCs, training partners, community groups and land managers, which have helped increase awareness of the Cultural Heritage of our region and the commitment to enhance our local landscapes.
“We are very grateful for all their efforts guiding Hunter Local Land Services staff and our Board and providing community feedback, and I look forward to working with the members of the new group in the future to continue this partnership.”
Expressions of Interest are now open for new members to come forward for the next two-year term.
