Emergency fodder available now for flood-affected livestock

Landholders need to continue to register their requests for emergency fodder by contacting the Agricultural and Animal Services hotline on 1800 814 647 so the response team can map out where support is needed most, allocate resources, and better manage fodder supplies.

“Once you are registered for fodder assistance our operations team will allocate you a supply and as soon as that supply is available, and we have space at the distribution point, we’ll contact you to schedule your pickup,” said AASFA Flood Response Incident Controller, Dr Andrew Biddle.

Emergency fodder for flood affected livestock is available at the following sites and can be collected once you have registered with the hotline and have been notified of your allocation:

  • Casino - Primex site - 8am to 5pm daily
  • Alstonville – McGregor Gourlay, 28 Kays Lane - 8am to 5pm daily
  • Grafton – McGregor Gourlay, 42 Hyde St, South Grafton – 8am to 5pm daily.

As flood water recedes and transport routes open up we are working to establish additional emergency fodder distribution points throughout the week.

Local Land Services and the Department of Primary Industries are working together as the Agricultural and Animal Services Functional Area (AASFA) to support landholders affected by the floods that have devastated the North Coast.

“If you or someone you know has livestock that have been left without feed, please call the hotline now to register for support,” said Dr Biddle.

More than 100 tonnes of emergency fodder have already been distributed via air and on the ground, to landholders in need.

Where possible, our staff are now out in the field assessing injured animals and welfare issues.

“Please understand, access to some flood areas remains unsafe, but our teams are working to assess the livestock losses and impacts on agricultural infrastructure wherever they can gain access.”

“This is why we are urging landholders to please register with the hotline so we know where you are and what help you need.”

Our teams can help with emergency fodder for immediate welfare situations, feeding and nutrition advice, as well as veterinary assistance and, where necessary, stock euthanasia and burial.

The hotline continues to receive large a volume of calls. To provide landholders with more options to lodge a request for assistance, a dedicated email has also been created for the hotline. Landholders can now also lodge requests by emailing aasfa@emergency.dpi.nsw.gov.au

We are here to help for the duration of the emergency and will remain on hand for the recovery to help our communities and producers with the difficult times ahead.
