Showcasing sweet corn and zucchini varieties at NSW Vegetable Innovation Day

Local vegetable growers and industry professionals are invited to the Sweet Corn and Zucchini Variety Field Day on Friday 13 December, 2024, where we will showcase the newest varieties of sweet corn and zucchinis. The event will showcase the latest innovations in sweet corn and zucchini varieties, offering insights into sustainable and productive farming techniques, including integrated pest management and soil health practices.

Hosted by Local Land Services in partnerships with the VegNET NSW team, the day is supported by funding from Hort Innovation’s VegNET Innovation Fund.

Aimed at small to medium vegetable growers, agronomists, and industry professionals, this field day will provide a platform to share knowledge, learn from experts, and explore the latest advancements in vegetable production.

Sylvia Jelinek, Senior Land Services Officer with Local Land Services in Greater Sydney and VegNET NSW Regional Development Officer emphasises the importance of collaboration at events like this. "This field day is a fantastic opportunity for growers to come together and learn about the latest advancements in vegetable production. By integrating new technologies and sustainable practices, we can enhance productivity and resilience in the sector."

Event highlights include:

  • New crop variety demonstrations: see the latest sweet corn and zucchini varieties.
  • Integrated pest and disease management: learn how to manage pests like fall armyworm using a mix of biological and chemical control options.
  • Pollination challenges: with varroa mite now established in NSW, experts will guide you on crop pollination strategies.
  • Ag tech innovations: discover the latest in irrigation management to improve water use efficiency.
  • Soil health insights: explore improved soil management techniques and resources designed to help growers adopt sustainable practices.
  • Sustainable farming: learn about alternatives to plastic mulches, including biodegradable options to maintain soil carbon and natural capital.
