Ruminant nutrition and animal health workshop

Join Veterinarian and Ruminant Nutritionist Dr Jillian Kelly and Local Land Services Drought Adoption Officer Alix Johnston for a workshop packed with everything you need to know about keeping your ruminants happy and healthy for the season ahead.

This workshop will cover:

  • ruminant nutrition, including basic rumen function and energy requirements of livestock
  • pasture evaluation, including assessing the quality and colour, taking pasture samples, and learning how to interpret a feed test
  • livestock feeding, including drought and supplementary feeding considerations, and how to use the drought and supplementary feed calculator
  • animal health considerations, including what to do when your animals start losing condition, how to spot signs of disease, and key health markers you need to keep an eye on.

This workshop is free to attend with morning tea and lunch provided.

About Jillian

Dr Jillian Kelly is the founder of Animal Health and Nutrition Consulting. With a veterinary degree from the University of Sydney and a membership in the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists in Animal Nutrition (Ruminant), Jillian brings a blend of academic expertise and practical experience to livestock management.

Raised on a farm in Coonamble and working alongside producers for 18 years in Western NSW and Queensland, she is passionate about proactive livestock production initiatives, focusing on drought planning, feeding and resilience to prevent disease issues before they occur.

This workshop is part of the Drought Adoption Officer program which received funding from the Australian Government's Future Drought Fund through the Southern NSW Innovation Hub and Southern Queensland and Northern New South Wales Hub.
