Protect your farm assets this fire season

With the fire season around the corner it is worth having at a look now at how you will protect your farm assets. Ground fuel loads are generally high right across the north west region and are now starting to dry out, particularly in western areas such as Walgett. This increasing fuel load flammability is a key risk  to monitor on your farm over the upcoming months.

Much of this preparedness work can be done now, including:

  • Keeping grass short (eg. grazing and slashing) around vulnerable infrastructure such as poly tanks and timber fences
  • Establishing or maintaining firebreaks where necessary to protect valuable assets such as crops, livestock and buildings.
  • Ensure firefighting equipment is in good condition and recently tested
