Exploring the life in your soil | Raglan

Want to get your head around the complex community of life that makes up a healthy, high functioning soil?

In this 1 day workshop you will learn the essentials about soil biology; soil microbes, soil organisms, plant roots and organic matter.

The day includes lots of hands-on activities and looks at soil biology tests as well as practical ways to assess soil biology on the farm. The main ways to improve soil biology in farming and grazing enterprises are also introduced.

We will look at:

  • introduction to the soil community
  • why soil biology matters
  • soil microbes
  • soil organisms
  • plant roots
  • organic matter
  • assessing soil biology
  • how to improve your soil’s biology.

We ask participants to bring a 20x20cm cube of topsoil from a paddock. You're welcome to bring more samples if you would like.
