South East Local Land Services property planning workshops; March – May 2022

The South East region has seen an influx of new rural landowners in recent years. The allure of being a property owner in a rural landscape within proximity to large urban centres is attractive, however it does come with social and legal responsibilities, including farm biosecurity, animal welfare and conservation of the environment. Meeting this obligation takes time and money and if not managed effectively, may turn the ‘dream’ of rural land ownership into a nightmare.

Property Planning is a process to identify and understand the underlying natural features of your property within the context of the landscape. This understanding will support you to work within the strengths and constraints of your property through design and management to meet your operational, economic and environmental goals.

South East Local Land Services is offering a series of FREE two-day property planning workshops across the region between March and May 2022. Workshops will support new and established landholders to start developing their own tailored and integrated property plan. Workshop activities will include:

  • Reviewing and considering your property as a whole-of-farm enterprise.
  • Assessing and managing your farms resources to benefit livestock, biosecurity, health and performance.
  • Mapping your farm resources - participants will receive and work on a large-scale map of their property, using it to develop, monitor and evaluate their farm plan.

Workshops will also provide an opportunity to meet key South East Local Land Services staff who can provide support across biosecurity, natural resource management, production and animal welfare.

Property planning workshops will be further supported later this year with additional workshops on Farm Water, Farm Business and Animal Health and Husbandry for South East landholders.
