Western Tracks workshops to provide landholders with latest pest animal data

After three years of trapping, collaring and monitoring feral pigs and wild dogs, the Western Tracks collaring project will share its findings at three workshops in Western NSW.
Landholders are encouraged to attend the workshops where the NSW Department of Primary Industries Vertebrate Pest Research Unit, Southern Queensland Landscapes and Western Local Land Services will update the project’s findings, including an insight into the movements of wild dogs and feral pigs, and the effectiveness of control efforts targeting them.
This is the first pest animal GPS tracking collar project in Western NSW, and now new data delivered by the project has the potential to inform pest animal management campaigns of the future.
Since 1989, the NSW Government has used GPS collars to track wild dogs and generated data which has helped deliver proven long-term wild dog management benefits across the state.

Western Tracks project background
The Western Tracks collaring project is a collaborative research project that aims to improve the management of wild dogs and feral pigs in flood and associated country of the Paroo, Cuttaburra, Warrego and Darling River systems.
The project is measuring the effectiveness of control efforts by using GPS collars to monitor wild dogs and feral pigs.
The project involves private and public landholders, pest management and Landcare groups, Western Local Land Services, NSW Department of Primary Industries, NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service, Southern Queensland Landscapes and the NSW Farmers Association.
