Supporting our neighbours – public land boundary fencing program
Supporting Our Neighbours was a $42 million NSW Government program to help bushfire affected landholders with the cost of rebuilding boundary fences adjoining public lands following the 2019-20 bushfires.
Program outcomes
Supporting Our Neighbours contributed funding for the reconstruction of 8,457km of fire damaged fencing bordering public lands, on 3,511 individual properties.
Re-fencing had several positive outcomes for landholders, including:
- support to generate income and maintain or return to business operations, particularly for primary producers with livestock
- support for mental health
- stronger neighbour relationships
- feral animal exclusion.
The program’s final contract extension finished on 31 May 2023. Landholders have been provided options to finalise their contractual obligations including contract acquittal and the returning of funds where works are incomplete. The program is now in closure.
