On October 15 each year, the United Nations’ International Day of Rural Women celebrates and honours the role of rural women and girls. It recognises rural women’s importance in enhancing agricultural and rural development worldwide.

International Day of Rural Women highlights the essential role that rural women play in shaping our future primary production practices and rural communities.

In celebration of Rural Women's Day on Saturday the 15th of October, Central West Local Land Services are running a photo competition to highlight the experiences of rural women in the Central West.

So get out your cameras and take some snaps that represent your life on the land, the good, the bad and the unexpected for your chance to win up to $500 in Buy From The Bush vouchers.

How to enter Local Land Services International Rural Women's Day photo competition

• Post your photo to one of our Facebook posts promoting Rural Women's Day
• use the hashtag #ruralwomen
• tag @CentralWestLLS
• submit your photo before midnight 31st October 2022.

After the closing date for submissions, eligible photos will be judged by the community on Facebook with prizes for the three photos with the most likes.

Terms and conditions:

Employees and the immediate families of Local Land Services staff are ineligible for prizes.

By submitting your photos, you give consent for Local Land Services to repost on Facebook, our website, and future digital and print media. Please ensure you have consent from anyone shown in your photos.

Why is International Rural Women's Day important?

On a global scale, societal barriers and discriminatory social norms continue to limit women’s decision-making powers in rural households and communities. In many areas around the world, women and girls in rural areas lack equal access to productive resources and assets, and access to basic public services, such as education, health care, water and sanitation. Much of women's labour remains invisible and unpaid.
