Demonstration day — Pre-season paddock walk (Kyalite/Balranald)

Landholders are invited to participate in an upcoming demonstration day as part of a two-year cropping productivity and summer fallow management program. This, the second demonstration day in the program, involves a pre-season paddock walk looking at fallow stubble management, including:

  • assessing and managing groundcover post harvest
  • looking at groundcover levels (what worked, what could be improved)
  • feed budgeting calculations plus livestock nutritional requirements
  • remote groundcover sensing
  • developing a fallow management plan.

Participants will measure stubble levels in paddock and calculate feed budgets across multiple paddocks. Fallow management options will be discussed based on calculation results before participants design a fallow management plan at the Kyalite Pub.

RSVP by 1 March to Luke Stacey for catering purposes (BBQ dinner is being provided). The summer fallow management program consists of seven on-farm demonstration days to be held through to July 2022, with Mallee Sustainable Farming involved as a key partner. This program is proudly supported by the NSW Government through its Environmental Trust.
