Assessing crop biomass (demonstration day)

Western Local Land Services is looking for cropping producers to participate in a two year program that aims to improve overall cropping productivity while also targeting the management of the summer fallow period.

The program consists of seven on-farm demonstration days to be held over two years, with Mallee Sustainable Farming also involved as a key partner.

The first demonstration day will be held on 29 September 2020 and will provide participants and attendees with methods to monitor and assess
groundcover using spatial data captured at different scales using:

  • satellite imagery
  • handheld/machinery mounted sensors
  • drone mounted multispectral sensors.

Participants will then use the resulting maps to sample low, medium and high biomass zones within the paddock.

Participants will actively measure crop biomass in each of these zones by taking a series of cuts to represent the target area. We will then show you how to process the cuts and calculate dry matter as kg/ha.

If you believe a neighbour or friend would also be interested in this opportunity, please promote the program to them.

Date: 29 September from 10am to 2pm. Venue: ‘Kinross’, Balranald.

RSVP by 24 September 2020.

This program is proudly supported by the NSW Government through its Environmental Trust.
