Riverina First Nations Leaders sought for Aboriginal Community Advisory Group

Riverina Local Land Services is calling on First Nations community leaders to join the organisation’s Aboriginal Community Advisory Group.

The organisation recognises the importance and value of traditional knowledge in managing land, said Riverina Local Land Services General Manager, Ray Willis.

“We’re encouraging the Aboriginal community to share their insights and knowledge, and seeking new nominees to continue the important work of our Aboriginal Community Advisory Group,” Mr Willis said.

“The Aboriginal Community Advisory Group is a high level committee of key Aboriginal community representatives who provide advice to our Board.

“Members oversee and guide us in implementing our Aboriginal Engagement Strategy, which broadly works to empower Aboriginal communities by building their capacity to influence change.

“If you are actively involved in your local community and have a passion to represent Aboriginal people in the Riverina, please consider applying.”

Members will be required to understand and represent Country, natural assets and resources such as water, vegetation and the cultural heritage values of Aboriginal people.

Expressions of Interest are now open for new members to come forward for the next two-year term. Interested people have until Friday 29 July 2022 to apply.

An expression of interest form is available at www.lls.nsw.gov.au/regions/riverina/local-advisory-groups/aboriginal-advisory-group
