Adaptive farms for sustainable landscapes

Farm planning, enhancing biodiversity on farm, establishing native vegetation to improve farm dams, improving waterways, providing shelter, and linking and enhancing remnants are some of the activities landholders can apply for funding for through Riverina Local Land Services Adaptive Farms for Sustainable Landscapes program.

Launched today, landholders are now invited to apply for funding across a variety of projects as part of the 2022/2023 Adaptive Farms for Sustainable Landscapes program to assist land managers to improve agricultural production and better manage natural resources.

Funding assistance is available for the following activities:

• Farm planning
• Enhancing farm dams and rangelands scald reclamation for biodiversity
• Establishing native vegetation to improve farm dams, improve waterways, provide shade and shelter, link and enhance remnants including paddock trees
• Constructing stock management areas (SMA) to improve drought resilience
• Protecting and enhancing endangered Box Gum Grassy Woodlands (specific to the Snowy Valleys, Cootamundra-Gundagai, Hilltops, Bland, Temora, West Wyalong, Wagga Wagga areas only)
• Improving landholder knowledge and skills
• Landholder ‘champions’ to demonstrate best practice in the above activities.

Land Services Manager, Riverina Local Land Services, Fin Martin, said this year we will be focusing on providing services to improve your skills and knowledge, as well as some on ground initiatives.

“We will be supporting landholders to improve their skills in managing their natural resources through farm planning workshops, online learning modules as well as in person through site visits, farm walks and farm demonstrations,” Fin said.

“Once landholders have selected which option/s are of interest, we will contact them to provide details on how to access online learning and discuss the program.”

Landholders have until 5 pm 30 September 2022 to submit an expression of interest to be part of the program.
