New Program Supporting Aboriginal Women on the Land

North Coast Local Land Services is excited to announce Phase One of our Aboriginal Women on the Land program, Yarning Soil and Harvest, to kick off Reconciliation week 2022.

The program will engage Aboriginal women in learning about soil, composting and regenerative agriculture. It will include cultural connections and women’s business with local Aboriginal women.

Participating groups will design and install a garden bed that supports implementation of the skills obtained through the program, enabling participants to practice and share their new skills with the wider community.

Kira Duroux, Coordinator of Aboriginal Programs and Cultural Engagement for North Coast Local Land Services, said “The theme for this year’s Reconciliation week is ‘Be Brave. Make Change.’ That pairs perfectly with the Yarning Soil and Harvest program.

“The 1967 Referendum and the High Court Mabo decision that we celebrate in Reconciliation week were about recognising Aboriginal people and our connections to country. This program is about empowering our women to be on country, whilst giving a safe space to practice and nurture the skills we learn”, Ms Duroux said.

North Coast Local Land Services is seeking Expressions of Interest from Aboriginal community groups, organisations, agencies, and businesses of the North Coast that want to be part of the Yarning Soil and Harvest program. For more information, contact your nearest local Land Services office on 1300 795 299.

Expression of interest forms can be found through this link: https://bit.ly/AWOL-EOI

Phase one expression of interest will close on June 14th, 2022.
