Riparian Restoration workshop - Managing our waterways | Lake Cargelligo

Central West Local Land Services invites you to attend a practical field day on the management of riparian land along waterways in the central west.

The workshop will cover:

  • on-ground methods of protecting and improving riparian land
  • water quality on-farm to help boost productivity and biodiversity.

Guest speakers:

  • Alison Elvin
  • Dr Adam Kerezsy– “Dr Fish” Freshwater ecologist
  • Dominic Nowlan – Project Manager Riparian Restoration project, Central West local Land Services.

Alison Elvin is a rural training specialist and farmer. Her workshops are based on current research and a lifetime of practical experience in sustainable farming practices.

Freshwater ecologist Dr Adam Kerezsy has been based at Lake Cargelligo in the mid-Lachlan since 1993 and works in the rivers of springs of inland Australia. He is the author of the natural history book 'Desert Fishing Lessons: Adventures in Australia's Rivers' as well as a large number of scientific papers, articles, reports and book chapters.

In this talk Adam will discuss the fish populations of the Lachlan, some of the new initiatives promoting the involvement of local youth groups and communities in monitoring activities, and the recent increase in carp numbers following widespread flooding in late 2022.
