Hollows for homes

Woodland habitat plays a critical role in supporting all hollow dwelling threatened species, including birds, bats, native marsupials, insects and mammals. They provide refuge from the weather and predators, and safe sites for roosting and breeding of birds and marsupials.

Join us for a practical workshop covering:

  • What is a woodland and its associated community, who lives there and why is this so important?
  • Learn about the ecological function, the structure and diversity of habitat required at small and large scale for Woodland species to be able to survive
  • How existing vegetation including large hollow bearing trees is critical for our native wildlife.
  • Who lives in hollows and when?
  • What you can do to enhance and protect woodland communities.

The morning will follow with a site visit to nearby farm “Carinya” where augmented hollows have been installed.

Wear suitable outdoor clothing for the field walk and cool weather.
