Landholders encouraged to throw their hat in the ring for weed management funding

Western Local Land Services is seeking expressions of interest (EOIs) from local landholders and not-for-profit groups that wish to receive financial assistance to undertake targeted control measures for weeds in the region.
The Weed Management Program 2021-22, which is currently open for EOIs, is offering incentive funding for African boxthorn control in Plains-wanderer habitat and Coolibah Black-Box Threatened Ecological Communities.
Funding is also available for other priority weeds in the Western Local Land Services region, as per the Western Regional Strategic Weed Management Plan 2017-22.
Senior Land Services Officer, Andrea Cashmere encouraged all eligible landholders and not-for-profit groups to submit an EOI.
“This is a great opportunity to receive assistance to improve and sustain the condition of natural resources and habitat of the Plains-wanderer through the control of invasive species like African boxthorn,” Ms Cashmere said.
“These invasive species can really impact on a landholder’s productivity and on biodiversity, so there are a multitude of benefits for people to participate in the program and carry out some control works.
“We’ve had strong numbers participate in similar weed incentive programs in the previous three years and we are expecting this to again be the case.”
EOIs for the program are open until Friday 6 August. Its expected EOIs will be assessed by the end of August, at this time Western Local Land Services will contact those who submitted an EOI to advise of next steps.
