Your help needed - native vegetation mapping

PRODUCTION ADVICE - DECEMBER 2020 - LAND MANAGEMENT

Local Land Services is currently working with NSW Department of Planning, Industry & Environment on a project to gather landholder feedback regarding the Native Vegetation Regulatory (NVR) Map.

We realise landholders are flat out with harvest, fruit picking, irrigating, calf and lamb marking and everything else in between (and hopefully preparing for a well-earned Christmas break), but we would really love your help.

The NVR Map was only partially released in 2017. There are two remaining categories of land that are yet to be published. These layers indicate which land is either regulated or exempt from land clearing legislation under the Local Land Services Act.

We would like to invite you to talk to us about the NVR map for your property.  We will do the leg-work to make the process as straightforward as possible. We expect the whole process will take a few hours at the most.

Once you have agreed to participate, you will receive a map package showing all published and unpublished layers of the NVR Map for your property, plus factsheets explaining the map and the unpublished layers. We would then ask you to share your thoughts about the Map via a short phone survey.

The project is completely confidential and is being run independently by Elton Consulting. Your personal details will not be shared outside of the project team and your responses to the phone survey will not be identifiable in any way.

Currently, landholders need to make decisions based on the LLS Act without the benefit of NVR mapping for all land categories. As a map evaluation participant, you will be able to use all the mapping and information provided in the map package to assist your decision making when planning land management activities.  You may also seek a review if you feel that the mapping of unpublished categories does not correctly represent what’s on your land.

If you would like to participate, please get in touch with us as we need to confirm the participants prior to Christmas. Please email map.review@environment.nsw.gov.au or phone 02 6360 9000 and we will send you a consent form. A map package will be provided to you and the phone survey will be conducted later in January.

Thank you very much for your time.
