Help with native seed monitoring

With the beginning of Spring, now is the time our Seed Services staff would normally be out and about checking to see what native plants are flowering in the lead-up to seed collection season that kicks off in November.

With the current Covid restrictions, we cannot get out and check how the plants are going.

As a result, we are seeking some help from our community to let us know where you see beautiful bursts of native flowers, either on roadsides, in reserves, or even on past direct-seeded sites in your local area.

Some of our early flowering species are Silver Wattle (Acacia dealbata), Golden Wattle (Acacia pycnantha), and Gold Dust Wattle (Acacia acinacea).

However, even if you don’t know what species it is in flower, we would still love to hear from you as it would be great to know where things are flowering so we can come and check them later to see if they are forming seeds.

We are also interested in knowing where any Eucalypt trees are flowering or if you have seen seed pods on them.
