Incentives, funding and scholarships

Hunter Local Land Services has a range of services and funding opportunities for our community and landholders in the Hunter region.

Below is the list of funding programs currently available in the Hunter region for 2023-24, with further programs to be added. The programs are targeted (restricted to certain geographic areas or applicant types) so please check the eligibility requirements of each program.

We can provide initial advisory services to landholders and Landcare groups and through this can identify appropriate funding programs available in the Upper, Lower Hunter and Mid Coast regions.

Current Hunter Region Grants and Funding 2023-2024

Land Management Incentives - targeted riparian programs (via EOI process)

Funding is available for on-ground projects across the Hunter region that improve riverbank vegetation and associated land management practices. These include:

  • Riverbank Vegetation Improvement Program in the Mid Coast
  • Riverbank Vegetation Improvement Program in the Hunter Valley
  • Lower Hunter River Estuary Vegetation Improvement Program

Four Valleys Sustainable Agriculture Incentives 2023 - 2025 (via EOI process)

Funding is available for landholders in the drinking water catchments of the Paterson, Allyn, Williams and Chichester Rivers to improve land management practices that reduce the risk to drinking water.

Lower Manning Dairy Nutrient Management Incentives Program 2023 - 2025 (via EOI process)

Funding is available to dairy producers to implement on-ground works and management practice change to improve water quality of the Lower Manning estuary.

Strategic Weeds Grant Program 2024

The Strategic Weeds Grant Program will allow for coordinated control, education, and regional planning of weed management. Additionally, the funding will allow for control programs to bring weed infestations within landholder capacity to manage, providing for reasonably practicable weed control. Many actions of the Hunter Regional Strategic Weed Management Plan require community involvement in weed management, this funding provides that opportunity for those community groups.
