Fish-friendly screens demonstration field day to showcase benefits of new technology

Western Local Land Services is encouraging landholders to come along to its fish-friendly screens demonstration field day where they can learn about this new technology and hear success stories from early adopter landholders, industry experts and manufacturers.

The field day, which will be held on Thursday 17 March at Ron Gol Station, near Pomona, will showcase fish-friendly diversion screen technology which continues to grow in popularity throughout NSW and across the country.

Fish-friendly diversion screens save farm businesses water, time and money, protecting the pump from clogging which minimises wear and tear and reduces the amount of time required for pump shutdown to clean secondary filters.

The screens also contribute to the health of the river system by preventing native fish, larvae and eggs and other aquatic creatures entering the pump.

Senior Land Services Officer, Kaye Gottschutzke is encouraging all interested landholders, irrigation specialists and the fishing community to register for the field day to gain a better understanding of fish-friendly diversion screens and their benefits.

“Diversion screen technology is gaining traction in Australia, and for good reason, with users saving water, time and as a result money, while fish and other aquatic life are staying in the river where they belong,” Ms Gottschutzke said.

“The field day will include presentations from a number of experts and screen suppliers and provide the opportunity to discuss individual pump system needs with the experts.

“With several screen types available and different requirements for each pump system, landholders can use this opportunity to research cost and suitability ready to apply through the Screening our Streams project.”

Please RSVP for COVID-19 and catering purposes to Ms Gottschutzke on 0429 981 331 or kaye.gottschutzke@lls.nsw.gov.au. The cost of the field day is free, including catering.

Landholders in NSW will also be able to register their interest for the ‘Screening our Streams’ project, which is being coordinated by Western Local Land Services. This project will provide funding support for the installation of a fish-friendly diversion screen.
