Landholders ready to commence rangeland rehabilitation projects

Landholders have expressed their interest in participating in programs to repair and improve creeks and river floodplains on their properties and have begun working with Western Local Land Services to develop their projects prior to commencing on-ground works.
Following an expression of interest (EOI) process, four EOIs were received for the rangeland rehabilitation program, while seven EOIs were received for the Ecosystem Management Understanding™ (EMU) program.
The rangeland rehabilitation program involves projects within the priority area of the Coolibah-Black Box Woodlands (CBB Woodlands) endangered ecological community.
The participants in this program will carry out soil erosion works that will improve the condition of vegetation in the CBB Woodlands.
Through the EMU program, participants will learn how to understand landscape processes, conditions, and trends. The on-ground projects will address ecological sustainability and agricultural productivity.
The landholder’s knowledge provides the foundation for the process, with the facilitators helping to build a baseline assessment of the property.
Senior Land Services Officer, Paul Theakston, who has over 20 years of experience supporting landholders to make improvements to their properties and the landscape, was pleased with the interest, again shown in both programs.
“It is always pleasing to see new properties, many of whom have not undertaken substantial rehabilitation works before, wanting to participate in these programs,” Mr Theakston said.
“We’ll now be working with these properties to plan their projects which will include the mapping of areas to be addressed, before to commencing on-ground works later this year.”
