Landholders encouraged to apply for funding to control weeds

Landholders have a great opportunity to receive financial assistance to control a number of weed species through the next round of our weed incentive program.

The program will assist landholders develop property weed management plans to improve and sustain the condition of natural resources in the Western region through the control of weed species, specifically African Boxthorn.

Some great outcomes with regards to weed management have already been achieved in these areas through similar programs that were run in the 2018/19 and 2019/20 financial years.

In the current program (2019/20), 23 landholders are managing a combined area of over 41,000 hectares in Ivanhoe, along the Lachlan River (Euabalong to Hillston), Brewarrina and Broken Hill.

Senior Land Services Officer, Brian Dohnt has been pleased with the level of interest in the previous two programs and is confident the next program will prove equally popular.

“The weed species that are targeted can really impact on a landholder’s productivity and on biodiversity, so it is great to have programs such as these that assist landholders to carry out some control work,” Mr Dohnt said.

“The 23 landholders that are involved in the 2019/20 program are proactive landholders who are achieving some great outcomes toward weed management and it will be pleasing to continue this with more landholders in the coming months.”

Landholders wanting to express their interest in participating in the upcoming program should read the guidelines and conditions prior to submitting an expression of interest.

The program is currently open with expressions of interest closing 29 May.

Landholders looking for further information on this project, or weeds management throughout the Western region, can contact Mr Dohnt on 0455 901 258 or email.
