Funding for on-farm environmental projects

Landholders in priority areas of the Central West may be eligible for funding to protect and improve natural resources with Central West Local Land Services launching their 2020 Healthy Landscapes grants round.

The NSW Government funding is available for on-farm projects including soil erosion rehabilitation, habitat improvement and riparian restoration in priority areas (see map).

Central West Local Land Services Natural Resource Management Team Leader Bree Agar said primary producers continue to play an important role in protecting and improving landscapes with incentives like these designed to help farmers enhance the environment.

“As we have seen in previous years these funding opportunities enable us to work with farmers to improve soil, waterways and habitat for species resulting in environmental and production benefits,” Ms Agar said.

“Our team has worked to identify priority areas of key species habitat as well as soil and waterway restoration.

“We are now inviting land managers in those locations to submit expressions of interest to carry out projects within the current financial year.”

The incentive projects offer producers assistance for stock fences, alternative watering points, weed control, pest control, supplementary plantings, site preparation, site management, cultural heritage surveys and technical support.

“The program covers a diverse range of areas such as installing fish-friendly irrigation screens along the Lachlan and Macquarie rivers, erosion control to the west of the region and improving habitat for the Spotted-tailed Quoll around Coonabarabran.

“We would encourage interested landholders to visit our Healthy Landscapes page to see what funding might be available in their area.”
