Field Day: The Value of Native Grasslands

Join Andy Taylor, Senior NRM Advisor, Ross Kuchel, Senior Ag Advisor and Roger Farrow, retired CSIRO Entomologist, on an exploration of the potential of native grasslands.

Native grasslands play a critical role in protecting our soil, ensuring clean runoff into our waterways and supporting our unique biodiversity and agricultural industries. Many farmers have come to rely on native grasslands as pasture because they are well adapted to local soils, rainfall and climatic conditions. Learn about these benefits and what the allowable activities are, within the native vegetation legislation, to enhance their production value.

Native grasslands are often the remaining layer of endangered plant communities, where the overstorey has been removed. They are still important areas to manage for conservation, even with grazing, as they support a range of

endangered animals including invertebrates, birds and reptiles. Learn what some of these species are and how you can maintain and enhance these plant communities to support them and others.

Plus, a whole lot more discussion.
