Field day: The BIG pig impact

Join Andy Taylor, Senior NRM Advisor, Nicky Webb, Senior Biosecurity Officer as well as Lou Baskind, District Vet Functional Lead, for an open discussion on all the reasons why we need to control feral pigs.

Whether you’re a farmer, a conservationist, a life styler, a real estate investor or a mix of any of these, chances are feral pigs have graced your property with their version of land management. Unfortunately, in Australia their presence is almost always negative.

As one of the most widespread feral pests in Australia, they have a huge impact by:

  • Rooting up valuable agricultural land
  • Spreading weeds onto farms and areas of high conservation value
  • Competing for resources with native animals and destroying native habitats
  • Being a vector of diseases that can affect livestock and other domestic animals.

The control of feral pigs on your land is required under the Biosecurity Act 2015 to prevent this damage and the potential impacts to the Australian economy and our many threatened species.

The good news is that Local Land Services is highly involved in supporting landholders in their eradication. But we need to do it collectively.

At this field day you will hear about some of the latest research into their behaviours and how we can use this to improve control methods. Trapping methods will also be displayed on the day.

Plus a whole lot more discussion.

Morning tea will be included.
