Sydney Shale soil pit workshop

Local Land Services invites you to join a soil pit workshop to learn more about the soils on your farm.
Soil knowledge is a precursor to regenerative and sustainable land management. Know your soils to know what to do.
This one-day workshop will focus on the issues and solutions for managing the properties of soils formed on Wiannamatta Shale. This is a limited opportunity to learn from leading experts from the NSW Soil Knowledge Network, Greg Chapmen, Roy Lawrie and Tony Voller.
The workshop will provide you with skills to understand your property’s land and soil characteristics and to identify management options that align with your goals.
From the topsoil to the deeper layers of your soil, this workshop will address:

  • Working with your soils to inform farm planning
  • Soil sampling and characterisation
  • Soil health and fertility management

The soils on your property?
You will take away knowledge and skills that can be applied to all soil types. The workshop will deep dive into clay soils found predominantly in south-west Sydney and you will see that these soils can vary, even across a paddock.
