Free veterinary laboratory testing

Local Land Services is providing free veterinary laboratory testing for animal disease investigations on cloven-hooved livestock animals.

The NSW Government is subsidising veterinary laboratory testing for new livestock disease investigations until 30 June 2023. This free testing is available in response to the increased risk of foot-and-mouth disease due to the ongoing outbreak in Indonesia.

Increased reporting and investigation of diseased livestock will improve surveillance for foot-and-mouth disease and other emergency animal diseases in NSW.

Testing is available for disease investigations conducted by private veterinarians on livestock that are susceptible to foot-and-mouth disease.

To be eligible, tests must be approved by a Local Land Services District Veterinarian and samples processed by the Animal and Plant Health Laboratory at the Elizabeth Macarthur Agricultural Institute.

How to arrange a free vet lab test

Private Vets will be required to request the fee waiver via a short form.

No payment is required upfront, and tests can be sent to the laboratory prior to approval. The laboratory will process tests once approved by your local District Veterinarian.

For more information, talk to your local district vet.

This program is being delivered by Local Land Services in partnership with the Department of Primary Industries.
