Weed identification

Correct identification is the first and most crucial step in weed management.

If you do not know what a plant is the key to accurate identification is to supply good quality specimens to allow a botanist or other regional expert to assist you. They require sufficient information about the plant, including details of the area from which it was collected and, if possible, supplementary photographs of the plant growing in its habitat.

Supplying inadequate information or poorly preserved and presented specimens often leads to plants not being identified or being misidentified.

Your local control authority weeds officer is on hand to assist you with more information. Otherwise, call the Local Land Services on 1300 795 299 for locally specific information.
